market day

I  may or may not have been counting down the days until I got to go to the supermarket like most eagerly await Black Friday.  I had a plan laid out, a set list with quantities and totals.  It was going to be epic.

It was American Days at Lidl.

The day I got the circular I  nearly cried I was so excited.  There between feta in brine for three euros and souvlaki was three pages of purely American products.  Deep dish frozen pizzas, muffin mixes, marshmallows, dried cranberries...oh the delights!

I waited as patiently as I could for Monday morning to come.  Then I slept through it because of a cold and had to deal with bank issues.  So I waited for Tuesday.  The day I would take Mr. F to work then ride off into the glorious sunrise of Lidl.

My mission was successful, I am pleased to report.  Despite my delay (and MUCH to my relief) all of the items I desired were still waiting for me.  I am now the proud owner of a flat of his and hers peanut butter.  (Mr. F likes crunchy and I like creamy. If at all possible we avoid compromising our desired butters.)  The best part of this for me was that the jars are even properly color coated for our respective school allegiances.  (Go Blue!!!!!)  We brought over a stash from the States when we moved here, but that was only going to last us so long.  Bless you Lidl for coming through!

The marshmallows were significantly cheaper than me trying to make my own, even though mine are dang tasty, so I picked up a few bags in the hopes of a camping trip in the mountains this summer and some s'mores.  And for cocoa.  Because yes, I will still be drinking hot cocoa when it is a hundred billion degrees whinygrade here in Cyprus this summer.

Our itty bitty, Easy Bake Oven of a freezer is now stuffed to capacity with wonderful homemade muffins and frozen pizzas.  I know, I know, it looks like we're college frat boys, but the pizzas were so cheap!  In my defense, I also stocked up on fresh pineapple, dried cranberries (care of American Days), and several bags of pasta.  And I even got some of that feta cheese.  When in Rome, right?

It was a crazy successful day.  I love being able to build up our food storage and to know that I've saved us some money in the process.  Having ample amounts of food and water on hand is a wonderful blessing and totally worth waiting for the sale.

  1. Wow! What a great story. After reading it, I feel like I need to appreciate my grocery store more. I am glad to know you got everything you wanted. I feel compelled to ask if you need me to send you anything lol. I wonder what the shipping cost is from Atlanta, GA to Cyprus...
