our home

Decorating this apartment has been a matter of trial, error, need, ingenuity, and general whims.  I feel like it changes daily, depending on a new piece I finish or what dish I pull out of the cupboard.  With spring approaching, I have been craving color and light and have opted to hide some of the darker framed pieces for white.  (Go figure, right?)  In fact, I find myself sanding down old frames and repainting them with white paint left over from my desk and dresser.

Nearly everything in our home serves a purpose.  With such tight corners, baskets are necessities rather than ornamentations.  Above my kitchen cupboards I have baskets filled with canned goods to make sure I have some food storage.  I constantly marvel at how much we have been able to put in here while it still feels airy.  I owe this to shelves, under the bed storage, and baskets.  Lots and lots of baskets.  Baskets for towels, napkins, CDs, art supplies, ribbons, shopping bags, food storage, books.  You name it, it's in a basket.

A few of my favorite features of the house are definitely the two clocks on the wall, telling me what time it is in Cyprus and in the Eastern U.S.  I love my baskets from thrift and consignment stores collected over the years.  My pottery mixing bowls on display on the fridge always bring me a smile.  Most days I get giddy delight over the addition of a new framed photo from our adventures together.
